I have to say that if the boot had have been on the other foot, and it was a shot from one of ours going past Krul, I wouldn't have felt aggrieved if it had been chalked off. Yes, those calls can go the other way, but I think on the balance of the evidence the correct decision was made: three players offside, the ball going across goal behind two of them, and in front of one who is standing close to the keeper and who dodges it. And despite what Pardew says about it being "top corner" and "unstoppable", it really was only chest height and well within diving range of Hart. who was definitely distracted by the presence (and movement) of Gouffran. It was just disgraceful the way the Newcastle players and manager responded to what they perceived as an injustice. Perhaps their outrage helped them mentally, to take the game to City in the second half, but it was ugly the way it manifested itself in the number of fouls and bad tackles, and Pardew as to take responsibility for that. And his verbal attack on Pellegrini! What a lunatic! I used to have a real soft spot for Newcastle and their fans; my opinion has hardened a little.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4509309870771298997.post-8503419264097853002014-01-13T03:33:32.943-08:002014-01-13T03:33:32.943-08:00What a very good summary of the whole grubby after...What a very good summary of the whole grubby afternoon, Simon. You're right, we do seem to now be benefiting from favourable decisions, although the odd poor one has also surfaced lately (Swansea)
I thought our discipline was admirable in the face of the Newcastle approach and the weak refereeing, and I'm surprised not more has been made of this by the press.
I do slightly disagree with you on the tackle that caused Nasri's injury - I thought it was very poor, as it was the second swipe that did the damage.
All in all, a very commendable, but costly, victory. It was not; it was both entirely pointless and downright vicious, consisting of two hacks at the departing player with no hope of getting the ball. But yes, the main attributes of the match - Newcastle's skill and determination in taking the game to us after we'd scored and City's professionalism and resilience were and will be overshadowed by 'Cuntgate'.valentino azzurrohttp://www.izzett.comnoreply@blogger.com
